A technique of representation of brain function based on magnetic resonance images allowed us to observe without radioactive tracers or other contrasts how blood flows through different regions of the brain at rest. We found a remarkable correlation between the activity of the vermis and the degree of limbic irritability indicated by responses to the questionnaire ELT young, healthy adults and an experimental group of young adults who had suffered repeated sexual abuse. The total blood in the vermis was clearly lower in the experimental group, indicating a possible functional impairment that would prevent activated enough to lessen the limbic irritability.
